Independent detection
- Methods focused on identifying trends, changes, or anomalies in ecological or environmental variables without assigning cause (i.e. no attribution of change).
- These methods are useful for early signal detection and for flagging candidate changes prior to an attribution study.
Overlap: Often used in combination with attribution-focused families, e.g., to justify further causal modelling or to inform the timing or location of interventions
Key feature: Change detection or signal analysis
Usage: For identifying when or where changes occurred, informing later attribution
